Communications department

Chief Superintendent Neil AdamsonThe Communications Department is the first point of contact for callers contacting Northumbria Police.  A telephony service operates for answering and distributing non emergency calls.  Contact Handlers deal with all police emergency 999, and non-emergency 101 calls including any follow up calls and general queries from the public in the Northumbria Police area. They speak directly to members of the public gathering and recording information about their call, making an initial assessment and determining the most appropriate response.

Resource Controllers ensure the most appropriate police resources are deployed to an incident through use of a two way radio communications system to ensure a coordinated response to incidents.
