Crime department has responsibility for five areas including investigating major crime, protecting vulnerable people, intelligence management and developement, covert intelligence, special branch and tackling serious and organised crime.
The department takes responsibility for maintaining standards of investigation for all crime as well as providing support to area commands for crimes which impact significantly on communities.
Major crime deals with the investigation of serious crime which includes murder, serious and sexual assaults and drug supply.
Protecting vulnerable people has responsibility for child and vulnerable adult abuse, rape and domestic abuse investigations and Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
