AIM OF POLICY: To clearly state Northumbria Police’s position in respect of the briefing and tasking of operational staff, ensuring compliance with national guidance.
BENEFIT OF POLICY: To provide clear and unambiguous instructions to all staff regarding the method by which operational staff will be briefed and tasked.
REASON FOR POLICY: To ensure there is a corporate approach to the delivery of briefings and tasking of resources across the Force.
All forces across England and Wales have a statutory responsibility to comply with the National Intelligence Model, of which briefing and tasking is an integral part. This policy ensures compliance with Authorised Professional Practice (APP) national guidance regarding the briefing and tasking of staff.
DESCRIPTION OF POLICY:
Northumbria Police aims to deploy and task all operational resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring all operational activity is supported by intelligence led briefings. To that end all operational staff within Northumbria Police will be briefed and tasked in accordance with the guidance set out by ACPO in the National Briefing Model and the College of Policing in APP.
Where circumstances allow, staff on Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be briefed and tasked together.
When operational staff commence duty at a time other than when a briefing takes place, they will self brief via the local briefing system.
