Abnormal Loads Information - June 2015

PUBLIC BRIEFING

ABNORMAL LOAD ESCORTS - BLENKINSOPP TO PORT OF BLYTH

A heavy haulage company have been contracted to move oil and gas industry storage tanks from Carlisle to the Port of Blyth.

All movements will have a police escort.

There will be 10 load movements spread over 10 weeks, with the loads of varying length, width and height. They are, however, all heavy with weights ranging from 104 tonnes to 183 tonnes.

Due to the height of the loads they need to avoid certain bridges, over passes, etc. The raising or removal of certain telephone and power lines will also be necessary as well as tree pruning. This means the route is quite complex.

The first loads will move on the 3rd/ 4th / 5th June followed by 10th / 11th / 12th and 17th / 18th / 19th June.

Cumbria Constabulary will always move the loads through their area on a Tuesday and Northumbria Police will then escort the load for the remainder of the route to Blyth on a Wednesday , Thursday and overnight on a Friday ( see below ).

Further dates will follow in July, August and September.

The guidance relates to the smallest loads and may be subject to change for the larger loads or depending on prevailing conditions.

Unfortunately we cannot give exact times for arrival at specific locations due to uncertainty around the exact speed of the load carrying vehicles. We may be able to give more information once the first escorts have been completed.
