Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

Thank you for your e mail dated 25 October 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police. 

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions. 

You asked:

1.Please disclose the amount paid in compensation in the financial years 2014/15 and 2015/16 for personal injuries to officers and civilian staff;

2. Please disclose how many individual claims this represented;

3. Please disclose in each case whether the claimant was an officer, PCSO or civilian staff member;

4. In each case please disclose the amount paid in compensation;

5.  In each case please disclose the total known cost of legal fees paid and the total overall (for all successful claims);

6. In each case please disclose the nature of the claim - for example: slipped on wet floor, dog bite etc.

 

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Legal Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

2014/15  The total compensation paid in relation to Employer's Liability civil claims for personal injury within the financial year 1/4/14 - 31/3/15 was £22,975.00 

2015/16 The total compensation paid in relation to Employer's Liability claims claims for personal injury within the financial year 1/4/15 - 31/3/16 was £34,592.00

2014/15  In relation to the total compensation paid of £22,975.00 within the financial year, this represented 4 Employer's Liability civil claims for personal injury and were brought by 3 police officers and 1 member of police staff. 

2015/16 In relation to the total compensation paid of £34,592.00 within the financial year, this represented 5 Employer's Liability civil claims for personal injury and were brought by 3 police officers and 2 members of police staff.

2014/15 In relation to the 4 Employers Liability civil claims for personal injury above, the nature of the claims are broken down as follows:-

1 injury to knee

1 soft tissue injury

1 injury to lower back

1 injury to ankle 

2015/16 In relation to the 5 Employers Liability civil claims for personal injury above, the nature of the claims are broken down as follows:-

2 soft tissue injuries

1 injury to foot

1 dermatitis

1 injury to knee, neck and shoulder
