Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 6 January 2015 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

Please could you tell me how many police officers (including PCSOs, staff and other police employees) have been disciplined following allegations of sexual misconduct made by colleagues within the last four years (broken down by 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014).

Could you please state the outcome (dismissed, suspended, charged, resigned, etc) for each case and, if possible, provide some context (sending text messages to female colleague, sexual harassment etc)  

In response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The following information has been extracted from a ‘live’ database and may be subject to the addition and deletion of complaints, complainants and subjects after the initial extraction of data used for the purposes of this report.

Data has been checked for allegations recorded with subject between 01/01/11 and 31/12/14 for conduct matters recorded against Police Officers and staff.  A keyword search was conducted to check these conduct matters where the allegation summary included the following keywords - ‘sex’, ‘inappropriate’, ‘rape’, ‘molestation’, ‘touch’, ‘email’, ‘e mail’, ‘e-mail’ and ‘text’.

Each conduct matter containing one of the keywords was then read to ascertain if it related to this type of conduct.  Please note each case is investigated and the outcome is dependent upon the issues identified following that investigation.

 With the above in mind please see the attached which answers your query in full.
