Domestic Burglaries - 3/12

Dated: 07 Jun 2011

Date of request: 02/01/2012

Date of response: 13/01/2012

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 2 January 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. How many domestic burglaries were recorded by your force in 2011 and how does this compare to 2009 and 2010 ?

  2. Which were the three worst geographical areas in your force to be affected by domestic burglaries in 2011 ? The term "area" can be flexible, depending on how your figures are recorded but, typically, I am looking for an area containing fewer than 1,000 households. If you have the information, can you also give me the number of burglaries in that area and the percentage of households affected (e.g. two per cent of homes in the area were burgled) ?

  3. What is the detection rate for domestic burglaries in your force for 2011 ?

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

Upon receipt of your request we advised that we would not be able to provide a response to question 2 as it stands, as we do not hold data any lower than to Area Command Level.  You confirmed that you were happy to receive those figures as such, therefore our response is as follows.

     2010 - 3633
     2011 - 3699

  2. Please see the below attached which answers this part of your request.

  3. 21.20%
