Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 4 April  2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. How many reported attacks have there been on GPs in their GP practices in the past three years? Please break down the answer by the following three years 2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year).

  2. How many of these attacks were prosecuted? Please break down the answer by the following three years (2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year).

  3. How many attacks have there been on GP practice staff in the past three years? Please break down the answer by the following three years (2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year)

  4. How many of these were prosecuted? Please break down the answer by the following three years (2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year).

  5. How many attacks have there been on doctors in hospitals in the last three years? Please break down the answer by the following three years (2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year).

  6. How many of these were prosecuted? Please break down the answer by the following three years (2012-13 financial year, 2011-2012 financial year, 2010-2011 financial year).
     
    To clarify I would like to know the number of people charged, summonsed and cautioned for attacks on GPs. But of course the case could have gone further than cautioned because it could have gone to court. So I would like all the information for these too, basically all that were prosecuted.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the (enter Department/s Area Command/s)  of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information below is the result of searches of crimes for "Violence against the person" and "Sexual offences" where "Doctors" or "Surgery" was listed in the location for questions 1 to 4, and where "Hospital" was listed in the location for questions 5 and 6.
