Thank you for your email dated  16 August 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

You asked:

We would like to request under the Freedom of Information Act the following information from your force:

In the week of September 1st to 8th 2011 how many incidents of metal theft were there in your police force area?

In the response please include an itemised list of every recorded offence, stating in each case the following:

a) date of offence b) location of offence c) estimated value of stolen items d) whether anyone was charged e) whether there was a conviction.

For each conviction please state the punishment that was given, ie £500 fine, 18-month community punishment order, 12 months jail sentence.

In response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The results given below are for all metal thefts with  a 'date committed from 'between 1st and 8th September 2011 as per your request.

The results include attempted thefts where nothing was actually stolen, hence some of the ‘value stolen’ fields are £0 (we record the damage value separately).  If property was stolen but the value of it is not known,  then a nominal value of £1 is recorded.
With the above  in mind please see the  below attached.

In addition to the above we can neither confirm nor deny that any other information is held relevant to your request as the duty in Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 does not apply by virtue of the following exemptions:
Section 23(5) Information Supplied by or concerning certain Security Bodies
Section 23 is a class based absolute exemption and there is no requirement to evidence the harm or articulate public interest considerations to the applicant.

The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police.  Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation.  In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
