Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 9 November 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

For the period 1 November 2010 - 31 October 2012:

  1. How many crimes in Southwick, Sunderland were committed by children

  2. What is the main age range of children who commit crimes in Southwick

  3. What are the main types of crime committed by children in this area

  4. What types of crimes are children victims to in Southwick

When referring to a 'child' I am referring to someone between the age of 10-16

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Sunderland Area Command of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.  This information is based on recorded crimes only, for the footbeats which cover the Southwick area of Sunderland, please note however that this also includes the Marley Potts area as it is not possible to provide a further breakdown of this information. 

For the period 1 November 2010 to 31 October 2012:

  1. A total of 40 crimes were committed by those aged 10-16 years.

  2. Of those crimes identified above, 15 year olds committed the most.

  3. Types of crime are as follows:
