  1. Since the beginning of October 2012, the number of reports of sexual abuse made to officers where the offence was alleged to have been committed against a victim who was under the age of consent and where the offence took place more than 10 years ago.  To clarify I mean where the victim was under the age of consent at the time of the alleged offence.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the enter Crime Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The figures below include offences occurring more than 10 years prior to the date recorded by Northumbria Police, and where the victim was under the age of consent at sometime during the offence taking place and includes all those offences categorised as rape, other sexual offences and other serious sexual offences.

Please note that the numbers provided relate to all reports of abuse and may include those where the offender/suspect was also a child (under 18 years of age) at the time of the offence.

  1. 142 between 01/10/2012 and 19/06/2013

  2. 85 between 01/01/2012 and 30/09/2012

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
