Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 11 June 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
For each of the last three financial years (i) 2010/11, (ii) 2011/12 and (iii) 2012/13 how much money was paid to officers and civilian staff of your force as compensation for personal injuries after they brought or threatened legal action against your force? (If possible please EXCLUDE the legal fees that may have been paid in these cases so that the answer is just the compensation received by the injured parties).
How many individual successful claims did this represent in each of the three financial years?
For all payments in excess of £1,000 that were paid in the 2012/13 financial year please state (i) the amount of compensation, (ii) the cost to the force of the legal fees associated with the case, (iii) if the employee was an officer, a PCSO or a member of civilian staff and (iv) a one sentence description of the nature of the claim.
Note this question relates to compensation claims paid in each financial year irrespective of when the actual injury incident took place, or when the claim was lodged.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Legal Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
