Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

Thank you for your e mail dated 9 March  2017 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police. 

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions. 

You asked:

"1. How an officer requests "rainbow epaultes"

2. Where these are sourced from?

3. Whether this supplier was sourced from the National Police e-Procurement strategy

4. How much each pair of epauletes cost

5. The total spent by Northumbria Police on "rainbow epauletes" since their introduction.

6. The total spent by Northumbria Police on a "Police with Pride" vehicle

7. The remit of use for said vehicle

8. The budget lines both "rainbow epauletes" and the "police with pride" vehicle have been charged to."


We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows. 

1. An officer requests the epaulettes through the Northumbria Police LGBT Association, explaining why they would need a set.

2. Toye Kenning & Spencer.

3. This supplier was identified following consultation with another police force who had purchased these previously for Pride.

4.   £4.80 /pair for a plain set of rainbow epaulette sliders. A small number of epaulette sliders identifying the officer number and designation cost £15.60.       

5. The total spent since the introduction in 2016/17 is £1,260 as at 13th February 2017

6. The vehicle is a standard operational vehicle which is part of the core fleet.  The cost for the revised livery was £512.

7. The vehicle is for exhibition and demonstration purposes and is used for engagement events across the force area. 

8.  Epaulettes spend against "Human Resources, Equal Opportunities - Uniform

     Policing with Pride vehicle spend against " Fleet – Vehicle Livery"
