Thank you for your email dated 22 October 2014 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Marine Unit & Finance Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

We do not hold  information down to the cost of the maintenance of the vessels.  Costs for marine operations are recorded on a generic basis rather than specific to craft maintenance.

However the reminder of your request is answered below.

Northumbria Police currently own and operate the following water craft.

Sabre a 7.7 metre Delta Rhib, built in 2004 by Northern Marine Power
Scimitar a 7.6 metre Arctic 24 Rhib, built in 1997 by Halmatic

ERB 1 a 3.1 metre Avon Emergency Rescue Boat, built in 2005 by Avon Inflatables

The maintenance of the vessels is managed and carried out by maintenance technicians who are employed by Northumbria Police.
The vessels are serviced every 100 hours running and undergo a yearly inspection by our staff. The craft also have a 5 yearly inspection by the MCA.

We also own the following vessels which are not in use at present and are currently advertised for sale :

Northumbria a 13.7 metre displacement craft of the Swordsman class. Built in 1980 by Fairy Marine.
Cutlass a 5.4 metre Avon Searider, built in 2002 by Avon Inflatables
Searider 1 a 4 metre Avon Searider, built in 1993 by Avon Inflatables
Searider 2 a 4 metre Avon Searider, built in 1992 by Avon Inflatables

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.

The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police.  Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation.  In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
