Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 26 April 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
Please send me details of all gifts and hospitalities accepted and declined by the Chief Constable since 15th November 2012 to-date. Please include a) Type of Gift/Hospitality b) Donors name (individual and/or company) c) value or estimation and d) date gift/hospitality accepted or declined.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.
As the information you have requested up to the end of 2012 is accessible by other means I have not provided you with a copy of the information and will rely on Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You should therefore consider this a refusal for that part of your request.
I have provided an explanation to this exemption below.
Section 21 (1) - Information accessible by other means
Information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant is exempt information.
Information regarding Gifts and Hospitality is routinely published, and therefore freely available, via the Publication Scheme on the Northumbria Police website. In order to assist I have provided the relevant link below. Currently this covers the periods 2009 to 2012
With regards to the outstanding time period, January 1st 2013 to the date of receipt of your request, 29th April 2013, I can confirm that the Chief Constable of Northumbria Police has received one offer of hospitality.
This was from Chief Constable Barton of Durham Constabulary, for a meal and refreshments on 16th April 2013 , which was also attended by the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police. The offer was approved and accepted. The approximate value was £47.00.
