Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your e mail dated 15 December 2015 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
Please may you provide me with the following information. Please email the information to me and, if possible, provide it in Excel format.
i) What are the average response times to Grade 1 calls for each year since 2010? (Please provide the average response times for 2015 up to, but not including, December 1st)
ii) How many Grade 1 calls were received in each year since 2010? (Please provide the number for 2015 up to, but not including, December 1st)
i) What are the average response times to Grade 2 calls for each year since 2010? (Please provide the average response times for 2015 up to, but not including, December 1st)
ii) How many Grade 2 calls were received in each year since 2010? (Please provide the number for 2015 up to, but not including, December 1st)
If it does not exceed the cost/time limit allowed for an FOI request, then please also provide the following:
3. What is the longest response time to a Grade 1 call recorded for each year since 2010? (Again, please provide longest response time recorded between Jan 1st and December 1st for 2015)
4. What is the longest response time to Grade 2 call recorded for each year since 2010? (Again, please provide longest response time recorded between Jan 1st and December 1st for 2015)
Note that if you don't record calls using the Grade 1 and Grade 2 system, then by the former I am referring to calls requiring the most immediate response and the latter is less urgent than Grade 1.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
In the information provided response times are counted from the time the incident is created until the time the officer attending advises they are at the scene.
Please note that the response times are calculated based on the initial priority allocated. That priority may have been downgraded at a later stage.
The average response time is calculated as the median response time.
Response times may have been extended for a number of reasons including, the caller going on holiday, the caller not keeping a diary appointment, requesting another force to take a statement from one of the parties involved and the caller not attending the police station.
If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish information via the Disclosure Log. The aim of the Disclosure Log is to promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into the public arena.
The Disclosure Log contains copies of some of the information that has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Whilst it is not possible to publish all responses we will endeavour to publish those where we feel that the information disclosed is in the wider public interest.
