Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 26 March 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
For the years 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 (up to date of this request) what is the fastest speed you have recorded a vehicle to have travelled on a road monitored by a speed camera?
What was the make and model of the vehicle and was it a police or civilian vehicle?
Where did the incident take place and what was the speed recorded?
Was the driver prosecuted? If not please provide a brief summary of the circumstances surrounding the incident?
Please also provide the same information in respect of a driver who has been apprehended by way of police mobile cameras either within a vehicle or at a static location?
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.
For the financial year 2010/2011 the fastest speed recorded at a fixed site location was 128mph.
For the financial year 2011/2012 the fastest speed recorded at a fixed site location was 125mph.
2010/2011 The vehicle was a police vehicle - Volvo S60.
2011/2012 The vehicle was a police vehicle - Volvo Estate.
The incident took place on the A69 Melkridge - speed as above.
The incident took place on the A1 Charlton Mires - speed as above.
Driver not prosecuted Police vehicle on police driver training.
Driver not prosecuted Police vehicle with blues illuminated responding to an incident.
2010/2011 fastest speed recorded by an officer in a vehicle at the roadside was 118mph - the vehicle was a civilian Ford Mondeo. The incident took place on the A1 near Alnwick, the driver paid the fine of £60 and had 3 penalty points endorsed on their driving licence.
2011/2012 fastest speed recorded by an officer in a vehicle at the roadside was 119mph - the vehicle was a civilian Ducati motorbike. The incident took place on the A194 Whitemare Pool the fixed penalty notice is still outstanding at this time.
