Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your e mail dated 10 October 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
1. The number of people caught drink driving broken down by month, so far in 2016 and 2015 in your force area.
2. The three dates of the year that most people were caught drink driving in 2015 and so far in 2016, and the number of incidents recorded on that date (e.g. 1st April 2016 = 21 incidents recorded) in your force area.
3. The number of people caught drink driving broken down by age and gender of the offender, so far in 2016 and 2015 in your force area.
4. The number of people caught drink driving so far in 2016 and in 2015 broken down by street names and postcodes of where the incidents took place.
Please prioritise your response to the questions in the order asked e.g. if time constraints do not allow for all questions to be answered, please answer No.1 as priority.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
This request has been interpreted as people who have been disposed of for being physically driving whilst unfit/over the prescribed limit for drink under the following Home Office codes.
803/02 Driving or attempting to drive a motor vehicle while having a breath, blood or urine alcohol concentration in excess of the prescribed limit
803/09 Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drink
Data provided is a count of disposals for the above offence codes only. It is possible that a person could be a repeat offender and so will be counted each time they were disposed of. The outcome of the disposal has not been taken into account (ie whether they were charged, cautioned, NFAd etc).
The lowest level we have been able to provide the information down to within the time constraints of the Act is to sector level, therefore to avoid an refusal notice being applied, we have provided you with that.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police. Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation. In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
