Mobile phones - 180/15
Dated: 01 Jul 2014
Date of request: 19/02/15
Date of response: 01/03/15
Thank you for your email dated 19 Febuary 2015 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
Could you please tell me how many drivers were fined for using a mobile phone (either texting or making a call) while at the wheel? Can you please give me figures for the last five years (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014)?
You then amended your request to:
The number of Fixed Penalty Notices and Summons issued for 'use handheld mobile phone whilst driving motor vehicle on road' for each of the last five years (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014)
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
The table below contains the number of Fixed Penalty Notices and Summons issued for 'use handheld mobile phone whilst driving motor vehicle on road', for the period you specified.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
