Appeal after man assaulted

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in North Tyneside.

It happened in the taxi queue at South Parade in Whitley Bay, at around 3am on New Year's Day. The victim, a man aged 29, had intervened when three men were having an argument with a woman in the street.

One of the men then struck the victim over the head with a bottle and assaulted him, resulting in lacerations to his head and arm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 471 01/01/15, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
