Detectives investigating an armed robbery at a Wallsend petrol station are releasing CCTV images.

At just after 6.20pm, on Sunday, November 23, police received a report of the robbery at Blue Sign Service Station, on the Coast Road.

A man entered the station wearing a dark motorbike helmet and holding a carrier bag.

He produced what is believed to be a black handgun from the bag and demanded money from a member of staff. He made off with a quantity of cash from the till on foot eastbound along the Coast Road. No one was injured during the incident.

The man is described as white, 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall, wearing a sandy coloured jacket to just above his knees with two patch pockets, jeans, dark shoes or boots and blue gloves.

Although wearing a motorbike helmet, it's believed the man was on foot prior to and following the robbery.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.

Detectives are releasing images of a man that was seen in the area at the time of the robbery who they want to identify and speak to as he may have information that could help officers with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 1100 23/11/14 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
