Attempted robbery in Ashington

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Ashington.

Around 10:05pm on Wednesday, January 7, a 55-year-old man was walking in Hirst Park when two men approached him and asked him for his mobile phone. The victim refused and the two men assaulted him.

The offenders fled the scene empty handed and made off in the direction of Hawthorn Road.

The victim was left with minor injuries.

The two offenders are described as being in their late teens and both were wearing hooded tops. One of them was wearing white high top trainers.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1073 070114.
