Two arrested following aggravated burglary

Police have arrested two men following an aggravated burglary in South Tyneside.

At just after 7.40pm, on Friday, January 9, police received a report of three men, one armed with a machete, forcing their way into an address on Lindisfarne Road, in Hebburn.

The men forced open the front door but were unable to get any further into the property via an internal door.

The men, all wearing dark clothing, made off from the scene empty handed in the direction of Finchale and Elmsfield Road. No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

Following enquiries, police have arrested two men, aged 41 and 25, on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing today and officers are patrolling the area to speak to witnesses and provide reassurance to residents.
