Police have released CCTV images of someone they wish to trace after cash back was stolen from a supermarket till in Sunderland.

The theft happened between 5.35pm and 5.40pm, on Friday, December 5, at Asda, on Ryhope Street South.

The 17-year-old victim left behind the cash back requested at the self service till. But when returning a few seconds later, the money was gone.

Police investigating the theft are keen to trace the man in the image who may be able to assist with enquiries.

Anyone who recognises the man or who witnessed the theft is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 985 05/12/14.

As part of Operation Soundwave, the forcewide campaign targeting opportunist thieves, police are reminding people to be vigilant when using self service tills and to always make sure they take all items with them, including any change or cash back.

People are also warned that they are stealing by helping themselves to any money left behind and committing a crime which they can be arrested for.
