Youngsters in Jarrow will be keen to get back behind their desk every Friday night following a donation from the Northumbria Police Charities Fund.

But rather than school work, the youngsters will be on a desk learning mixing skills and how to be a DJ at Perth Green Community Association.

The Association applied for funding from the Northumbria Police Charities Fund for the Numark Mixdeck Express Premium DJ MIDI Controller following a suggestion by Jarrow Neighbourhood Policing Team which works in the area.

There have been issues with youth anti-social behaviour in an around the Scotch Estate in Jarrow and local PC Brian Gardener who took the proposal for the mixing desk to the Charities Fund, said: “It’s hoped this new activity, which we endorse and will attend when we can, will reduce incidents of youth ASB in this area.”

The photograph shows PC Brian Gardener handing over the mixing desk to Chair of Perth Green Community Association June Gardiner.
