Police are appealing for information after a burglary in Newcastle.

At 11.35pm on Sunday, January 11, police were called to an address at Denmark Street in Byker after receiving a report that a man had been assaulted.

Following enquiries it was established that three men went into the flat and threatened and then assaulted the 19-year-old resident. It's believed the suspects were armed with a firearm and a baseball bat. Property including electrical items were stolen.

The victim suffered a cut to his head and received hospital treatment.

DI Helen Anderson said: "This was obviously distressing for the victim and we're doing everything we can to trace these three men and make arrests.

"I'd urge anyone who saw the men in the area on Sunday night or who has information about who they are to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Extra patrols are taking place in the area to reassure residents and gather information.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the suspects in the area or who has information about the incident to contact them on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 1075 11/01/15, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
