Gas masks stolen from garden

Police are appealing for information after two gas masks were stolen from a garden in South Shields.

The theft happened between 1am and 10am, on Monday, January 5.

The masks had been left in a garden on Sheridan Road after work had been carried out at the property.

Enquiries into the theft are ongoing and police are keen to speak to any witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 397 06/01/15 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police are continuing to target opportunist thieves as part of Operation Soundwave. Anyone who spots any suspicious activity in their area should contact police.
