Spate of fires in Ashington

Police are appealing for information after a number of fires in Ashington.

The first incident was reported at 6.20pm on Tuesday, January 13, where linen was set alight on Maple Street.

Another incident was reported of a garden chair being set alight in a garden in Poplar Street. The incident is believed to have happened between 3.15pm on Friday, January 9, and 9am on Wednesday, January 14.

A third incident was reported at 8.25pm on Thursday, January 15, when a bottle was set alight and thrown at a car window.

Acting Sergeant Neil Hall believes the incidents may be connected and will take action to find those responsible.

He said: "This behaviour is dangerous and unacceptable. Anti-social behaviour of any sort will not be tolerated and I ask anyone who has any information about these incidents to come forward.

"We are following a number of lines of enquiries and I want to reassure the community that we will find those responsible and face the consequences of their actions.

"We have extra officers on patrol in the area to carry out enquiries and provide reassurance to residents."
