Police are appealing for information after a number of car crimes in Ashington.

Sometime late Friday night, January 16, into early Saturday morning, January 17, thieves broke into five vehicles parked around the 'Racecourse' estate.

Cars parked in Ascot Grove, Cheltenham Court, Aintree Close, Wetherby Close and Epsom Drive were targeted and items such as cash, keys and a sat nav were taken.

A garden shed in Aintree Close was also broken into around the same time and a red Carrera bike was stolen.

Enquiries are ongoing into the thefts and officers are appealing for information.

Ashington Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Harris said: "I'd ask anybody who saw anyone or anything suspicious around the racecourse estate on Friday night, or early Saturday morning, to contact us. We are checking CCTV in the area and making house to house enquiries to identify those responsible for these thefts.

"To help avoid being targeted by car thieves we need motorists to remove valuable items, like sat nav systems, mobile phones and money, from their vehicles overnight. Report any suspicious behaviour to police and always lock your car when leaving it."

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police in Ashington on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 329 170115.
