Oil theft in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information after oil was stolen from a commercial premises in Gateshead.

Police were called to W&S Recycling in Whinfield Industrial Estate, Rowlands Gill, on Thursday, January 22, at 6.30am after workers discovered thieves had used equipment to steal oil from a storage tank at the compound.

It is estimated around £600 of kerosene oil was stolen.  Officers are appealing for witnesses to this incident.

Neighbourhood Inspector Michael Robson said: "We are asking for anyone who was in this area of Gateshead and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to call police. 

"We also want to remind businesses and members of the public to be vigilant should they be offered  this oil for sale as it could cause mechanical problems if used as fuel.

"Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 130 22/01/15."
