Aggravated burglary in Birtley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a report of an aggravated burglary in Gateshead.

At around 7.10pm on Friday, January 23, officers attended an address in Laxford, Birtley where three man had entered the address and assaulted the occupant.

The three men made off from the premises and damaged a car outside the address.

The 70 year-old victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

The first man is described as being 6ft tall with a thin face, pointed  nose and wearing a balaclava. He is believed to have been carrying a machete.

The second man is described as being a little shorter than the first man, average build, mid 20s and carrying what is described as a baseball bat.

The third man is described as being smaller than the other two men.

Officers are in the area carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to the community.
