Man charged following Blyth bookmakers' robberies

A man has been charged following two robberies at a Blyth bookmakers.

At around 7.30pm on Saturday, January 31, a man, armed with a knife, went into Chisholm Bookmakers in Elliot Street in Blyth and stole cash from the premises.

On Friday, January 30, at just after 11pm the bookmakers was robbed in similar circumstances.

Noone was injured in either incident.

Michael Parker, 26, of Winship Street, Blyth has been charged with robbery, possessing a knife and criminal damage.

He will appear before Mid & South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court on Monday, February 2.

Detective Inspector Helen Anderson said: "We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

"Extra patrols are being carried out in Blyth to offer reassurance to the local community and we are offering support to the bookmakers."
