Shop Robbery in North Tyneside

Police investigating a shop robbery in North Tyneside have released CCTV footage.

The footage shows the man go into Simply Food and Drink in North Road, Wallsend, and threaten the staff member with a knife before stealing cash from the till and cigarettes.

It happened around 3pm on Sunday, December 21.

It's believed another man may have been waiting outside of the store for the offender and they may have left the area in an older style Volkswagen Golf.

DC Steve Hakin is investigating, he said: "While the woman in the shop wasn't injured she was left extremely distressed by what happened.

"We've been carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the two men involved and I'd urge anyone with information about who they are to get in touch with us, anonymously if necessary.

"Someone out there will have information which will help this enquiry and ask them to contact police, no matter who insignificant they feel it may be it could be vital in helping find these men."
