Police are appealing for information after connected incidents in Gateshead.

Around 11.40pm on Thursday, February 12, a man went into an unlocked house in South View Terrace in Swalwell and stole property including a mobile phone and cash from inside.

It's believed a white bike was then stolen from the garden of a house next door. And a few minutes later a man on a bike snatched a mobile phone - a white iPhone 5 - from a 30-year-old man walking along Market Lane.

Police are investigating and are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 1289 12/02/15, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The appeal comes during Northumbria Police's Operation Soundwave, aimed at tackling thieves and burglars across the force and promoting crime prevention advice to residents.
