Man assaulted in city centre takeaway

Police investigating an assault in Sunderland are appealing for a witness to get in contact.

The assault happened at 2.13am on Tuesday, February 10, when a man aged 28 was assaulted inside the Red Chilli takeaway at Holmeside in the city centre.

Police subsequently received information from Sunderland Royal Hospital that the man was receiving hospital treatment and his condition is now believed to be potentially life threatening.

A window pane of a door at the takeaway was also damaged in the incident.

It's thought the victim and his friend were in the company of another man, who they met earlier in Ttonic, and they went together to Illusion (Passion) in Holmeside later in the evening.

Officers are keen for the man to get in contact as he may be a key witnesses to enquiries.

He is described as black, over 6ft tall and was wearing backpack. He had a distinctive afro-style haircut, back combed.
