Dog owners are being invited to meet their local officers while having their dogs microchipped for free.

Sunderland North Neighbourhood Policing Team has teamed up with Vets4Pets and Tesco to offer the microchipping to residents between 10am and 3pm, on Saturday, February 28.

The event will take place in the community room, at Tesco, on Roker Retail Park. As well as the microchipping, people can chat to their local officers, raise any concerns they have and find out more about how their neighbourhood is being policed.

Neighbourhood Inspector Tony Carty said: "From 2016, it will be a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped.

"This event is giving dog owners the chance to have this done for free but it's also a great opportunity for them to speak to officers and talk over any crime or disorder issues that might be affecting them in their community.

"We look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the session."
