Police are appealing for witnesses after reports two girls were approached by a man in Leam Lane.

The first incident is believed to have happened at around 10.50am on Tuesday, February 17. A man in a car approached a girl around the Hopedene and Millford area and offered her a lift.

A similar incident was also reported on Monday, February 23, where a man in a car approached a second girl at around 6.15pm near The Paddock and offered her a lift.

The man did not attempt to leave the vehicle and no physical contact was made with either girl.

Officers believe the incidents may be linked and that the man was in a silver/light coloured car.

The victim from the first incident described the man as white, possibly with a foreign accent. The second victim described the man as tanned, in his 20s, slim with black hair and was wearing dark clothes.

Extra officers are in the area carrying out enquiries and provide reassurance to the community.

Neighbourhood Inspector Darren Sweeney said: "These sorts of incidents are unusual in this area and we want to reassure residents and parents that additional officers will be in the area to provide reassurance.

"I do ask anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in these areas to contact police."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 614 17/02/15 for the Hopedene/Millford incident or 1017 230215 for the incident at The Paddock, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
