Robbery in Gateshead

The incident happened at 8.20pm Tuesday February 24, at Tesco Express in Carr Hill Road.

A man went into the store, believed to be in possession of a machete, threatened a member of staff and took money from a till.

No-one was injured in the incident.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is in police custody.

Extra officers are in the area to reassure the local community and carry out enquiries into the robbery.
