Rogue trader incident Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses after a rogue trader incident in Gateshead.

The first incident happened on Thursday, February 26, when three men knocked on the door of an elderly resident in Highfield, Birtley and offered to carry out roofing work. The resident agreed and money was handed over.

The men returned to the address at 4.50pm on Friday, February 27th and claimed additional work was needed. The men encouraged the resident to hand over money, but the work was not carried out.

The first is described as a white man, aged 30, 5ft 10" tall of large build and with brown hair. He was wearing a navy baseball cap and had an Irish accent.

The second man is described as being in his 30's, 6ft tall with short dark hair and with a Liverpool accent.

The third is described as being in his 20's with short red hair, freckles of a slim build and a Liverpool accent.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Residents are advised to be on their guard to strangers calling at their door. If they are in any doubt they should close the door and ring police.
