Serious collision in Newcastle

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the Great North Road in Newcastle.

It happened between a pedestrian and a car at 1.26am in the early hours on Sunday, March 1, at approximately 400 metres north of the junction with Clayton Road.

The pedestrian, a 19-year-old man, for reasons yet to be established collided in the carriageway with a VW Passat car travelling southbound towards the city centre.  He suffered serious injuries.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is receiving treatment, he has what are described as life threatening injuries and his condition is described as critical but stable.

The road was closed for three hours while the casualty was initially being treated and to enable the scene to be examined by motor patrol officers.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting log number 121 of 01/03/15.
