Police investigating an historic rape of a young woman are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened at an address in Newcastle in the early hours of Friday, September 21, 2012 .

The victim had been out in Newcastle city centre on the evening of Thursday, September 20, she chatted with two men she met in the City Vaults bar. Approximately 12.15am, in the early minutes of Friday, September 21, the victim left the premises alone. We know she waited outside the bar and then left the area in a taxi and was later raped inside a private address.

Police now want to trace and speak with the two men the victim spent time with in the City Vaults bar. It is believed the two men are known to each other and are now being sought as key witnesses. This was the evening that Newcastle United played an away fixture in the Europa Cup vs CS Maritimo, a Portuguese team, it kicked off at 6pm and ended as a 0-0 draw.  It was also during the busy student's freshers week, when new students were coming into the city centre to socialise.
