Charity shop burglary

Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a charity shop in Northumberland.

The break-in happened at Scope on Station Road in Ashington between 5.30pm on Saturday, March 14 and 8.45am on Monday, March 16. Offenders forced entry to the rear of the premises, causing damage, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and some items of jewellery before leaving unseen.

Acting Inspector Elizabeth Hall said: "Callous thieves have deliberately targeted this shop knowing that it relies on donations from kind hearted members of the public in order to raise cash for charity.

"We're appealing for assistance from the community to help us find those responsible for this crime so we can put them before the courts."

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
