Man assaulted in Sunderland

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on a 41-year-old man in Sunderland.

It happened at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 18, in St Ignatius Close.  He was attacked in the street by a man and woman. They  made off from the area in a silver coloured car.

The victim was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital suffering from head injuries and has since left hospital.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
