School children in Newcastle have been learning about internet safety with their local neighbourhood policing team.

To help raise awareness of the importance of being safe when online Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from the Newcastle East Neighbourhood Policing Team visited local schools to talk to pupils about cyber crime and how to protect themselves online.

Issues around bullying on social networking sites and how to stop receiving unwanted to messages were also discussed.

Byker Neighbour Sergeant Paul Duncan said: "The internet is an important tool and very much a part of everyday life for young people and we want them to stay safe online.

"The purpose of these visits was to speak to school children and find out what issues and concerns they have about online safety and let them know what steps they can take to help keep themselves safe."
