Attempted distraction burglary

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man attempted to gain access to a property in Newcastle.
The incident happened at around 9.05am on Sunday, March 22, when a man claimed he needed the check the electric meter and tried to enter the address on Northway, Throckley.
The occupant asked the man for ID when the offender has then pretended to make a phone call to 'Tony' and made off from the address in a large silver car with a roof rack towards Hexham Road.
Nothing was stolen from the property.
The man is described as white, 50-60years, of small build, around 5ft 6, and was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and a white cap with a logo on the front. He is described as looking dirty and unkempt.
The investigation forms part of Operation Strongbow - an initiative which targets doorstep crimes and distraction burglaries.
