Police are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in Newcastle.

Officers were called to an address in Greenlaw in West Denton at 9.40pm on Monday, August 10 following an incident.

Five men armed with bats came to the address and forced their way inside. They assaulted a 46-year-old man causing facial injuries and then left. Nothing was stolen during the incident.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by ambulance and was released following treatment.

One of the offenders is described as wearing a yellow high visibility jacket and had a white handkerchief over his face and another was wearing a black cycle helmet.

Police are carrying out house to house enquiries and are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
