Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Gateshead.

At around 5.50pm on Sunday, August 23, a man tried to rob a woman as she got into her car outside the Co-operative store on Beacon Lough road.

She was not hurt and he did not manage to steal anything during the incident before he fled in the direction of Carlisle Place.

The offender is described as white, around 6ft tall, of slim build, and with short mousey hair. He was wearing dark blue jeans, blue jumper underneath a black fleece, gloves and black and white Nike trainers.

Officers believe this robbery may be linked to another on Saturday evening at the Nisa store on High Street in Wrekenton.

Extra patrols will be in the area to carry out enquiries and reassure any concerned members of the public.

Anyone witnesses, or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, is asked to contact police on 101 extension 69191 quoting reference number 1023 23/08/15 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
