Man assaulted in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information after an assault in Gateshead.

At around 11pm last night (September 1) officers received reports that a 26-year-old man had been assaulted outside a property in Ridley Gardens.

The victim had got into an altercation with another man before he was struck across the face with a bottle.

Emergency services attended and the 26-year-old was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

Following police enquiries a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
