Police are appealing for witnesses to a hit and run collision in Newcastle.

It happened at 6.10pm on Thursday, August 27, on Ponteland Road in Cowgate near to the junction with Druridge Drive.
A 17-year-old female pedestrian was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing which was on red, requiring traffic to stop, with two friends. A double decker bus had stopped in the nearside lane to allow them to cross, but a white Ford Ka travelling in the off-side lane collided with the pedestrian. The teenager fell onto the car bonnet which caused minor injuries. The car driver did not stop and drove off towards Kenton Bar.

The Ford Ka driver is described as a woman in her late teens to early 20s, with blonde hair and wearing large sunglasses. Police want to trace the driver of the vehicle and are asking for them to contact officers.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting log number 916 270815.
