Further appeal after Church broken into

Police are continuing to appeal for information after a Church was broken into in Sunderland.

Between 11pm on Wednesday, September 9, and 9.30am Thursday, September 10, St Mary's Church in Bridge Street was broken into.

Nothing was stolen in the burglary, however, substantial damage was caused to a stained glass window. The Holy Water font was also damaged after the offenders urinated in it.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for witnesses.

Acting Inspector Neil Hudspeth said: "Whoever is responsible for this burglary has caused a considerable amount of damage to the Church, smashing a stained glass window and damaging the Holy Water font.

"We're carrying out enquiries into the burglary and would ask anyone who has information to get in contact with us."
